Become Lawyer || How to become in United States

Studying I realized that it's not very clear like what it takes to be a lawyer in the United States like in different states a lot of people think you just got a law school take the bar exam and Wow your lawyer but let me tell you a secret nonetheless to the song would you like let me know you would see I can't sing let me stop but basically I'm glitching in on something and it takes a lot more than that to be admitted to the bar in any state there are lots of tests that you have to take so stay tuned and I feel you all about it so basically yesterday or maybe the day before yesterday my days are getting jumbled together I set the New York law exam and someone asked me they're like why are you taking so many bar exams and that's not the bar exam but let me just let me just start explaining so step number one to becoming a barred attorney in any state is you have to complete undergrad you have to get a bachelor's degree we have some foreign students that watch our vlog so I'm saying this because in a lot of countries a law degree is actually like what you do in undergrad what you do with college but it's not like that in United States I want to clarify that you don't have to have another degree before you enter law school doesn't matter what's at agreement that number two is that you need to go to an ABA accredited law school I think the ABA lists all of their accredited law schools I'll try to link that if I can so yeah.

I guess it was APA accredited law school there are steps to getting into law school but we've done that video before I'll link it above so I'm not going to you know repeat what I've already what we've already addressed but you have got a law school think they'll exact all that kind of stuff so that's that number two step number three is that you have tests we have to take they're all a part of your bar application so one size that you have to take is called the mpre it's an ethics exam take it and you kind of submit your score to one state so I submitted my support of New York but then you can also transfer that score to another state if you're taking where they were bar exam like I am so that's the MPR exam it's all about ethics if you have a professional responsibility or an ethics required course in your law school then you kind of already have covered a lot of topics people usually think it either they're too low or 300-year the most commonly their 3l year I took in my tool year kind of she wants to get out the way but yeah catch them carry step number four I think I'm on steppin before is that you have to take well ok step number four is different depending on if you're in the ube state or not easy state so what you bees say it just means that the state that you're trying to take the bar and they have adopted a uniform bar exam and that's the bar exam that applies to every state I think like 30 states have adopted it so you can take the bar exam in one state and just like use that bar for a bunch of different states that's the uve some states are stubborn some things like California still have not adopted this uve Texas hasn't adopted it they're adopting it soon so with those things amps the process a little bit different I'll start with EBE states first so with the ube state step number four will be to take the state's law exam so with New York something before is actually to take the New York law course it's a bunch of videos that you have to watch I think it's like 18 hours of the videos you have to take quizzes and pass the quizzes and it's basically to prep you on New York specific law since the ube law glim just kind of are you EE bar exam sorry kind of testing you on like with the law that applies to most places and like the majority or the minority rules they want you to like be aware of the differences in New York specific law if they can your clock for December 4 in New York so number 5 in New York or any state that structured similar to this you have to like this stuff up I just want to give an overview so that number 5 in New York gets taken to your logs in which you take a month after you take the New York law course and that's the test.

I took recently and it was about 50 questions and it's open book and you have to answer like a bunch of questions with some multiple-choice questions number 6 is our step number 6 point number in my hands that number 6 is to take the bar exam but you can't just take the barge then you have to apply so you have to provide them with the handwriting on form they have like this other form we have to fill out that shows that you have enough credit even take the bar so even to take the bar in itself but the bar exam in itself is all the whole process being up in the bar most people take the bar the summer after 33 years I'm doing the pro bono scholars programs.

I'm taking at this February but usually it the summer after you're really here after you do that you're still not done you're still not like okay thank you faster bar these cracks on these tests you would think that now while you're a lawyer no there is more steps there's a whole application to actually apply to the state's bar so there's a bar exam there's a difference in a bar exam and being a bar and an attorney being a bar at a training series practice meet you know taking the bar exam it's just one of the elements he means to get to that point so with the bar application you have to list like every address that you've ever lived in you have to pass character and fitness which shows that you're a fit person to practice law there's a bunch of other steps last step or a bunch of other steps within the bar contagion process and then the last step is to get smart in and then you're turning so now we go back to the non you bees these non amis dates you can kind of skip step four and five what you do after you take the MPR me is that you don't really have a state-specific of course because that's all a part of the bar so the bar Exams and these things are three days instead it's two days so you eat space is usually today's like a multiple choice das a day I need a fact check this by the preacher man right whereas with the other types it's like well sex is just a little bit different so the bar it's three days and within that bar exam you're taking space specific you're testing on the state specific Wow she is the kind of skip a bunch of stuff I guess I'm assuming it takes more studying for those tests because you're the test is three days I'm seeing is more material I would think in the technical area our entire study and I started that's just like my assumption so be sure to look up for me when I practice look up whether they are a uve state or not you ve stay look up they have to do a lot more look up like what score you need on the mpre there's a range so some states requiring like this more that's more or whatever so you just have to like look those look into those things to make sure so.

I hope that's covered it I hope that this was helpful this is what it takes to become a BART attorney in the United States and any of the states oh I missed one another requirements become a foreign attorney in a state is that you have to complete a certain number of pro bono hours some things that's fifty I don't know if it's more your teeth or forty or fifty something like that first Colombia has a requirement and New York Taizo requirements I can't get the confuse and one of the tires and the other but either way this is something you also have to look up so within your time in law school we need to plan to do pro bono work me and Sam both did pro bono caravans I was in Houston she was in New Orleans where we like worked with the nonprofi organization and stuff like that and gave legal services for free the pro bono Scholars Program I'm doing it in the spring also would like to satisfy the requirements without me working like 40 hours a week for like the most of the semester so you have to look into that and make sure you have your gonna our injury so after you have your Percona hours and graduated law school you've also graduated undergrad using the NPR be thinking like this makes you sit the course if you have to you're thinking the bar and then all these types of things you have to get your application together past character and fitness you have to have like a lawyer recommend you things like.

That there a lot of nuances but all that kind of online but that's like the basic steps to becoming a lawyer and the United States I hope this was helpful you like this video like comment subscribe and share and watch out for more videos this was just like a little bitty break from vlogmas I mean this is still part of like our 12 days of lawdness series but instead of doing like a traditional blog I kind of want to sit here and kind of talk to y'all and make sure that y'all are informed about how to become a lawyer just makes us about you let's go down or if you have a friend that is in law school and figure out what the hell are they doing why are they always studying for all these different tests now you know they have lots of tests and lots of different requirements become a lawyer so just be there to support them help them out alright see you next time bye
